Nala Oli Volunteer Handbook

Oral Hygiene Proposal

This study was conducted to understand the role that community health workers (CHWs) can play in diagnosing manifestations of impaired oral hygiene such as dental plaque, caries and gingivitis and validate their assessment through re-examination of the random sample by a certified dentist. The note discusses the background of oral healthcare in the developing world and establishes the importance of oral health and hygiene by citing research that reveals its links with other serious health conditions. The paper also explains the methodology adopted and the protocal followed for the study and includes details of the CHW training curriculum along with the schedule for training and the envisaged timeline of the Oral Hygiene Study.
